Hyundai and Kia Recall 3.4 Million Vehicles for Engine Compartment Fire Risk: What You Need to Know
Hyundai and Kia are recalling nearly 3.4 million vehicles in the United States due to a fire risk. The recall affects vehicles from the 2010 through 2019 model years, including the Hyundai Santa Fe, Sonata, Elantra, and Tucson, and the Kia Sorento, Optima, Sportage, and Soul.
The problem is with the vehicles’ anti-lock brake control module (ABS module). The ABS module can leak fluid that can cause an electrical short, which could lead to a fire in the engine compartment.
Hyundai and Kia are advising owners of the affected vehicles to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. The companies will replace the ABS fuse in the vehicles at no cost to owners.
