Australia Bowl Out India for 240 in Cricket World Cup Final
Australia cruised to a comfortable victory over India in the cricket World Cup final on Sunday, bowling them out for 240 and chasing down the target with ease.
The win was Australia’s fifth World Cup title and their first since 2015. It was also their second win over India in the final, after their victory in 2007.
Australia won the toss and elected to bowl first, and their bowlers quickly made inroads into the Indian batting line-up. Mitchell Starc was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4 for 56, while Pat Cummins and Adam Zampa took three wickets each.
India were bowled out in the 49th over, with only KL Rahul (74) and Virat Kohli (57) making significant contributions with the bat.
In reply, Australia openers David Warner and Aaron Finch put on a solid opening partnership of 82 runs. Warner was dismissed for 49, but Finch went on to score 89 and guide Australia to victory.
Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell also chipped in with unbeaten knocks of 36 and 28 respectively, as Australia cruised to victory with 7 wickets and 101 balls to spare.
The victory was a fitting end to a remarkable tournament for Australia, who were unbeaten throughout the competition.
India, on the other hand, will be left to rue a missed opportunity to win their first World Cup title since 1983.
