Bebe Rexha Opens Up About Anxiety, May Skip 2023 VMAs

Pop star Bebe Rexha is opening up about her anxiety ahead of the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).

The 34-year-old singer took to TikTok on Monday to share a video about her anxiety and how it is affecting her decision to attend the awards show.

“I don’t know if I am going tomorrow,” Rexha said in the video. “I do have an outfit. It is cute. And I do want to wear my dress and I do really want to go to celebrate my nomination and my friends’ nominations, but I do feel like anxiety gets the best of me.”

Rexha, who is nominated for best collaboration for her song with David Guetta, “I’m Good (Blue),” explained that she is “not feeling so confident” ahead of the event.

“I’m just feeling anxious about people talking about my weight,” she said. “I’m not really loving myself right now.”

Rexha has been open about her struggles with anxiety in the past. In 2019, she wrote a candid essay for Billboard about her battle with anxiety and depression.

“I’ve always been an anxious person, but it got really bad in 2018,” she wrote. “I was having panic attacks all the time and I couldn’t even leave my house.”

Rexha said that she is currently seeking treatment for her anxiety and that she is feeling “better than ever.” However, she said that she is still not sure if she will attend the VMAs.

“I’m just going to see how I feel tomorrow,” she said. “I don’t want to put myself in a situation where I’m going to have a panic attack.”

Rexha’s decision to potentially skip the VMAs is a reminder that even celebrities struggle with mental health issues.
