Bowman Slams Republicans for Comparing Him to Capitol Rioters: ‘It’s Crazy’
In a recent interview, Democratic Congressman Jamaal Bowman called Republicans who compared him to Capitol rioters “crazy.” The comments were made in response to a number of Republicans, including Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, who have compared Bowman to the rioters who attacked the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
“It’s just crazy,” Bowman said. “I’m a sitting member of Congress, and they’re comparing me to people who stormed the Capitol and tried to overthrow the government. It’s just absurd.”
Bowman went on to say that he believes the comparisons are part of a broader Republican effort to demonize Black and brown people. He said that Republicans are trying to “create a false equivalency” between Black and brown people who are protesting for justice and the white rioters who attacked the Capitol.
“They’re trying to say that we’re all the same,” Bowman said. “But we’re not. We’re fighting for justice, and they’re trying to overthrow the government.”
Bowman’s comments come at a time when the Republican Party is increasingly embracing white nationalism and extremist views. In recent years, Republicans have repeatedly downplayed the danger of white supremacy and have even defended white supremacist groups.
In the aftermath of the January 6th attack on the Capitol, many Republicans have continued to spread lies about the election and have even defended the rioters. Some Republicans have even gone so far as to compare the rioters to American patriots.
Bowman’s comments are a reminder that the Republican Party is becoming increasingly radical and dangerous. The party’s embrace of white nationalism and extremist views is a threat to democracy and to the American people.
