Colorado’s Two-Way Star Travis Hunter Suffers Injury After Illegal Hit (video)
Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter was taken to the hospital for evaluation during the third quarter of the Buffaloes’ 43-35 double-overtime victory over Colorado State on Saturday night.
Hunter absorbed an illegal hit to the midsection from Colorado State safety Henry Blackburn in the second quarter. Blackburn was flagged for pass interference and unsportsmanlike conduct on the play.
Hunter returned to the game after the hit, but was eventually taken to the hospital during the third quarter. Colorado head coach Deion Sanders said after the game that Hunter is expected to be out for a few weeks.
“The first thing I heard is he’s going to be out a few weeks,” Sanders said. “The bad thing about losing Travis, it’s like you’re losing two players at once.”
Hunter is one of the most talented players in college football. He was a five-star recruit out of high school and was named the Pac-12 Freshman Defensive Player of the Year in 2022.
This season, Hunter has played both wide receiver and cornerback for the Buffaloes. He has caught 15 passes for 200 yards and three touchdowns on offense, and he has recorded 20 tackles and three interceptions on defense.
Hunter’s injury is a major blow to the Buffaloes, who are off to a 3-0 start to the season. Colorado will face a tough test next week when they travel to Arizona State to play the Sun Devils.
