Deebo Samuel leads 49ers to 30-12 victory over shorthanded Giants
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Deebo Samuel had six catches for 129 yards and a touchdown, and Brock Purdy threw for a regular-season career high 310 yards as the San Francisco 49ers defeated the New York Giants 30-12 on Thursday night.
The 49ers were without injured wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk (shoulder), but Samuel stepped up to fill the void. He made several big plays throughout the game, including a 33-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter that put the game away.
Purdy also had a strong game in his second career start. He was efficient with the ball, completing 25 of 35 passes and avoiding turnovers. He also had a touchdown pass to tight end George Kittle.
The 49ers’ defense was also dominant, holding the Giants to just 283 total yards. Linebacker Fred Warner led the way with 12 tackles, and defensive end Nick Bosa had two sacks.
The Giants were without several key players, including running back Saquon Barkley (ankle) and wide receiver Kenny Golladay (knee). But even with their depleted roster, they put up a fight.
Quarterback Daniel Jones threw for 181 yards and a touchdown, and running back Gary Brightwell rushed for 74 yards. But the Giants ultimately couldn’t keep up with the 49ers.
The 49ers are now 3-0 for the first time since 2019. They will look to stay undefeated next week when they travel to the Philadelphia Eagles.
