Uh oh, Kim Kardashian’s facing a lawsuit that’s got nothing to do with keeping up with the Kardashians, but rather, keeping it real with furniture design.

Here’s the tea:

In a 2022 video showcasing her swanky SKKN by Kim office, Kim Kardashian gave viewers a peek at her “glam rooms,” a theater, and a kitchen – all decked out in a minimalist style. Part of that look included some sleek tables and chairs that Kardashian supposedly credited to famed minimalist artist Donald Judd.

But here’s the twist:

The Donald Judd Foundation, which protects the artist’s legacy, wasn’t having it. They claim those pieces weren’t designed by Judd and sued Kardashian for misleading viewers. Yikes!

According to the lawsuit, the tables and chairs were actually made by Clements Design, a company the foundation also named in the suit for trademark and copyright infringement. The Judd Foundation clearly wants to distance itself from the whole situation, with a representative quoted as saying, “We don’t want to be mixed up with her.”

So, what’s next?

Kardashian’s design team says they were “blindsided” by the lawsuit, but it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out in court. Will this be a slam dunk for the Judd Foundation, or will Kardashian’s team be able to settle things out?

This lawsuit has people buzzing for a few reasons:

  • Celebrity vs. Artist: It’s a clash between two very different worlds – the world of reality TV and celebrity influence, and the world of fine art and artistic integrity.
  • Trademark & Copyright Confusion: The case raises questions about how closely a design can resemble another artist’s work without infringing on their rights.
  • Keeping it Authentic: It highlights the importance of accurate attribution, especially when it comes to luxury design.

Stay tuned! We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for updates on this unique lawsuit.
