Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Pederson said he expects quarterback Trevor Lawrence to start in Week 7 against the Indianapolis Colts, pending a workout on Wednesday.

Lawrence missed the Jaguars’ Week 6 loss to the Miami Dolphins with a concussion. He was cleared from the concussion protocol on Tuesday, but Pederson said he wants to see Lawrence go through a full workout before making a final decision on his status.

“Trevor is doing well,” Pederson said. “He was cleared from the concussion protocol yesterday, but we still want to see him go through a full workout today before we make a final decision on his status. But everything is trending in the right direction, and we expect him to start on Sunday.”

Lawrence has struggled in his first two seasons in the NFL, but he has shown flashes of potential. He threw for 3,641 yards and 12 touchdowns with 17 interceptions last season.

The Jaguars are hoping that Lawrence can take a step forward this season in his second year under Pederson. Pederson has a proven track record of developing quarterbacks, and he believes that Lawrence has the talent to be a franchise quarterback.

“Trevor is a very talented quarterback,” Pederson said. “He has a lot of potential, and we’re excited about his future. We know that he’s still learning and growing, but we’re confident that he’s the right guy to lead our offense.”

The Jaguars are currently 2-4 on the season and in last place in the AFC South. They will need Lawrence to play at a high level if they want to have a chance to make the playoffs this season.
