Joe Burrow Injury Update: Bengals QB Game-Time Decision, Team Split on Ailing Star Playing
The Cincinnati Bengals are still unsure whether quarterback Joe Burrow will be able to play in their Week 7 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football.
Burrow suffered a right calf injury in the Bengals’ Week 6 win over the Baltimore Ravens. He was limited in practice all week and is listed as questionable on the final injury report.
Head coach Zac Taylor said that Burrow could be a game-time decision.
“We’ll see,” Taylor said. “It’s really day-to-day. We’ll have conversations and see where it goes.”
Burrow threw to receivers in a red zone drill during the portion of Saturday’s practice that was open to the media. He had a compression sleeve on his right leg.
Burrow’s teammates are divided on whether he should play on Monday night. Some believe that he should rest his leg and avoid further injury. Others believe that he is tough enough to play through the pain.
“I think he should play,” said Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase. “He’s our leader. He’s our quarterback. We need him on the field.”
“I think he should rest his leg,” said Bengals running back Joe Mixon. “We don’t want to risk him making the injury worse.”
The Bengals are 3-3 on the season and are currently in third place in the AFC North division. They are facing a tough Rams team that is 4-2 and is in first place in the NFC West division.
If Burrow is unable to play, the Bengals will start backup quarterback Brandon Allen. Allen started in one game for the Bengals last season, throwing for 228 yards and two touchdowns in a win over the Houston Texans.
The Bengals are hoping that Burrow will be able to play on Monday night, but they are prepared to go with Allen if necessary.
