Kumo Sushi & Steakhouse Closing After Food Poisoning Outbreak
Kumo Sushi & Steakhouse, a popular restaurant in Stony Brook, New York, will close permanently on Monday, September 25, 2023. The closure comes after more than two dozen patrons became sick from food poisoning earlier this month.
The Suffolk County Health Department has not yet released the cause of the food poisoning, but investigators believe that cooked rice may have been the culprit. The restaurant was issued 15 alleged violations, including eight for foodborne illness risk factors.
Kumo Sushi & Steakhouse opened in 2019 and quickly became a favorite among locals and visitors alike. The restaurant was known for its fresh sushi, sashimi, and hibachi cuisine.
In a statement on Facebook, the owners of Kumo Sushi & Steakhouse expressed their deepest regret for the recent incident and apologized to those who were impacted. They said that they are committed to learning from the incident and enhancing their practices to ensure that every visit to Kumo is a safe and enjoyable experience.
However, the owners ultimately decided to close the restaurant permanently. They said that the decision was difficult, but it was in the best interests of their staff and customers.
The closure of Kumo Sushi & Steakhouse is a loss for the Stony Brook community. The restaurant was a popular gathering place for friends and family, and it will be missed by many.
