Lights Out in Louisville: LG&E Works to Restore Power After Storm

Hey there, Louisville! We’re all still picking up the pieces after that wild storm that rolled through over the weekend. And for many of us, those pieces include flashlights and a serious case of refrigerator anxiety. Yep, thousands of LG&E customers are still without power, and crews are working around the clock to get the lights back on.

According to LG&E, the storm was one of the worst they’ve seen in two decades, knocking out power to nearly 190,000 customers at its peak. While they’ve made significant progress, with most customers back online, there are still pockets around the city – including yours truly here in [your neighborhood] – who are patiently waiting for the familiar hum of the fridge.

LG&E says they’re prioritizing critical infrastructure and areas with the most outages. They’ve got over 1,200 line technicians out there battling downed power lines and broken poles, and they’re aiming to have most folks back online by tonight. However, that timeframe can always change depending on the extent of the damage in each area.

If you’re one of the unlucky ones still in the dark, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Stay safe! Downed power lines can be deadly. Always assume a downed line is live and don’t touch it.
  • Report your outage to LG&E. They can’t fix what they don’t know about! You can report it online or by calling their outage hotline.
  • Keep tabs on LG&E’s outage map. This is a great way to see the latest restoration times and track the progress of the crews.
  • Charge your devices! If you know the power might be out for a while, make sure your phone and any other essential electronics are charged up.
  • Break out the board games! This is a perfect time to dust off those old favorites and reconnect with your family (minus the whole “electronic glow” distraction).

Here’s hoping LG&E flips the switch on those rolling blackouts soon. In the meantime, stay safe, Louisville, and we’ll get through this together!
