Transit Agencies Prepare for Beyoncé Concert Traffic
Seattle-area transit agencies are preparing for a surge in traffic after Beyoncé’s concert at Lumen Field on Thursday night. The gates at the stadium open at 6:30 p.m., and the concert is scheduled to start at 8 p.m.
Sound Transit, King County Metro, and the King County Water Taxi are all adding extra service to help fans get to and from the concert. Sound Transit will add extra light rail trains on the Sounder Line and the Link Light Rail. King County Metro will add extra buses on routes that serve the stadium, and the King County Water Taxi will add extra trips between West Seattle and downtown Seattle.
“We expect this to be a very popular event, and we want to make sure that fans have a way to get to and from the stadium without having to worry about traffic,” said Sound Transit spokesperson Kimberly Reason.
Transit is free for people 18 years and younger in Washington state.
In addition to adding extra service, transit agencies are also working with law enforcement to plan for crowd control. The Seattle Police Department will be deploying extra officers to the area around Lumen Field to help manage traffic and ensure public safety.
“We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable experience,” said Seattle Police Department spokesperson Patrick Michaud. “We encourage fans to take public transit or carpool to the concert, and to arrive early to avoid congestion.”
Beyoncé’s concert is part of her “Renaissance World Tour.” The tour is expected to gross over $2 billion, making it one of the highest-grossing tours of all time.
