USM Business School Soars to Second Round of National Case Study Competition!
Hats off to the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) business school! A dedicated team of their students has aced the first round of the 2024 CSBS Community Bank Case Study Competition, putting them in the running for national recognition.
This prestigious competition, organized by the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS), is a fantastic opportunity for undergraduates to gain real-world experience in the banking industry. Student teams across the country partner with local community banks to tackle a specific case study. This year, the focus is on the recent closures of Silicon Valley Bank, Signature Bank, and First Republic Bank. The teams must analyze the impact on their partner bank and predict how the regulatory landscape might shift. Additionally, they delve into the bank’s social media strategy and its effectiveness.
The USM team, comprised of Julian Atehortua Martinez, Tyler Pierce, Walter Johnson, Garrett Lamky, and James Ankiewicz, impressed the judges with their analysis and presentation. They’ll now join ten other teams for the next round, all vying for a spot in the top three.
The competition is fierce, but the USM team has already proven their mettle. The entire USM community is rallying behind them, eager to see them take home the top prize.
Here’s what makes this win so exciting:
- National Recognition: A top placement would put USM’s business school on the map, showcasing the caliber of their students and faculty.
- Real-World Experience: The competition provides an invaluable chance for students to apply classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios in the banking sector.
- Scholarship Opportunities: The top three teams receive scholarships, making education more accessible.
The second round results will be announced on June 4th. Stay tuned to see if the USM team continues their winning streak! In the meantime, let’s extend a hearty congratulations to these talented students and their dedicated advisor. You’ve made USM proud!
