Los Angeles Angels two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani’s locker was mostly cleared out at Angel Stadium on Friday night, after the team lost 11-2 to the Detroit Tigers. Ohtani missed his 11th consecutive game with an oblique muscle injury.
Nearly all the personal items had been removed from Ohtani’s locker and the adjoining empty stall. A fully packed bag with a logo from the 2023 All-Star Game sat in front of his stall where his shoes would normally be, and only a few workout shirts hung on the rack.
An Angels spokesperson said the team would give more information about the development on Saturday.
Ohtani is set to become a free agent after the season, and there has been much speculation about his future. The Angels have said they want to keep him, but they are struggling to compete in the American League West.
If Ohtani is traded, it would be one of the biggest blockbusters in MLB history. He is a two-time All-Star and the reigning AL MVP. He is also one of the most popular players in the league, both in the United States and Japan.
