NASA Highlights Media Opportunities for Upcoming Ring of Fire Eclipse

NASA is highlighting media opportunities for the upcoming Ring of Fire eclipse, which will be visible from parts of the United States and Canada on October 14, 2023. The eclipse will be the first annular solar eclipse visible from North America since 2017.

An annular solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly in front of the Sun, but does not completely cover it, leaving a ring of sunlight visible around the Moon. The Ring of Fire eclipse will be visible from a path that stretches from Oregon to Texas.

NASA is offering media opportunities to cover the eclipse from a variety of locations, including:

  • Oregon: NASA will host a media event at the Oregon Solar Eclipse Festival in Madras, Oregon. The event will feature talks from NASA scientists, as well as live views of the eclipse.
  • Idaho: NASA will host a media event at the Craters of the Moon National Monument in Idaho. The event will feature talks from NASA scientists, as well as live views of the eclipse.
  • Texas: NASA will host a media event at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas. The event will feature talks from NASA scientists, as well as live views of the eclipse.

In addition to the media events, NASA is also offering media opportunities to cover the eclipse from other locations along the path of totality. Media interested in covering the eclipse from one of these locations should contact the NASA Office of Communications.
