Salman Toor: No Ordinary Love, a major solo exhibition of work by Pakistani-born artist Salman Toor, will open at the Rose Art Museum on November 16, 2023. The exhibition will feature over 45 recent paintings and works on paper, as well as two of Toor’s sketchbooks.
Toor’s work explores his experiences as a Queer diasporic South Asian man, combining elements from historical paintings with contemporary moments to create imaginative new worlds for the 21st century. His paintings are often characterized by their vibrant colors, lush textures, and intimate portrayal of queer desire and intimacy.
The exhibition at the Rose Art Museum will be the final stop on a three-venue tour that began at the Baltimore Museum of Art earlier this year. It is curated by Dr. Asma Naeem, Dorothy Wagner Wallis Director of the Baltimore Museum of Art, and Dr. Gannit Ankori, Henry and Lois Foster Director and Chief Curator and Professor of Fine Arts and Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies at Brandeis University.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue with essays by Evan Moffitt and Hanya Yanagihara. The Rose Art Museum will also host a public reception on Thursday, November 16, at 6 p.m., to celebrate the exhibition opening.

The Rose Art Museum is located on the campus of Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. It is about 20 minutes from downtown Boston by car or public transportation.
If you are driving, take I-95 to exit 33 for Waltham Center. Turn left onto Lexington Street and then left again onto South Street. The Rose Art Museum will be on your right.
If you are taking public transportation, take the MBTA commuter rail to the Waltham Center station. From the station, it is a short walk to the Rose Art Museum.

Admission to the Rose Art Museum is free for all visitors. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
